Amazing Architecture: Delaware

Delaware, known as the first state in America by being the first to ratify the Constitution, this state is rich in history and meaning. In this iteration of Amazing Architecture, we will be visiting the state of Delaware to see parts of this rich history and other architectural innovations!

Grand Opera House- located in Wilmington, this theater building was built in 1871 and serves as a premier example of 19th century cast iron architecture. This building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 for this exact reason! It holds an incredibly sturdy look to it, from the mini columns by the window to the iron fencing on the roof. It currently hosts different plays and musicals.

Hockessin Public Library- located in Hockessin, this modern library has a very sleek and minimal design to it. From floor to ceiling windows all across and even having a portion of the library suspended above the ground, this library embraces all the latest trends of 21st century architecture, showing a certain freshness in a historic district. The inside even hosts donut and other unique chandelier shapes to give a sleek interior as well.
