The track of Hurricane Ian was unpredictable. Many areas lacked preparedness due to this unpredictable nature of the storm, since it went a different direction than expected. Orlando Sentinel reported widespread flooding in Orlando specifically, leading to the evacuation and rescue of many people in the area. While it isn’t a major storm surge, flooding can do damage to homes, block roadways, and trap people in their homes. Wind gusts were up to 90 miles per hour, which furthered the damage of homes. Inland areas don’t often receive major damage from hurricanes, at least to this extent. Needless to say, the area was not prepared for what occurred.
