Central Florida After Ian

Hurricane Ian was an extremely impactful storm that took many areas by surprise, including Central Florida. In this article, we will be discussing the extent of the storm in Central Florida and its impacts.

The track of Hurricane Ian was unpredictable. Many areas lacked preparedness due to this unpredictable nature of the storm, since it went a different direction than expected. While Central Florida was on track to get some bands of the storm, not many news outlets were expecting the storm to go right in the central part of Florida, moving northeast into the Atlantic Ocean.

Orlando Sentinel reported widespread flooding in Orlando specifically, leading to the evacuation and rescue of many people in the area. While it isn’t a major storm surge, flooding can do damage to homes, block roadways, and trap people in their homes. Wind gusts were up to 90 miles per hour, which furthered the damage of homes. Inland areas don’t often receive major damage from hurricanes, at least to this extent. Needless to say, the area was not prepared for what occurred.

There are many lessons to learn from this storm, and those in central Florida will never forget Ian. Always be prepared for anything to happen. As we have seen, these storms will only get more unpredictable.
