Happy Home: Roof Care

As being the literal top of your home protecting you from the elements, your roof needs proper maintenance to make sure it is well kept, especially during heavy storms! In this iteration of Happy Home, we will go over roof maintenance and what you need to know and check for.

The first part to make sure to check are your shingles. It's important to remember that it's not only flying tree branches and debris that can damage your shingles, but also the UV rays from the sun can deteriorate your roof over time so checking in at least yearly is ideal. In that same manner especially leading to hurricane season, cutting branches and trees around your home prior can save a lot of trouble potentially.

It's important to remove any excess debris you find on your roof, especially moss! Moss can grow between shingles if left unattended and since they hold water, can lead to leaking water into your home. You can also top your roof with zinc sulfate granules to prevent incidents like this. Same applies to gutters and making sure they are unclogged. Having an overflowing gutter can lead to water and support damage.

We hope you found this information on how to care for your roof to be helpful in keeping up with your home maintenance! At AJS, we are committed to serving the Gulf Coast and beyond in moving, building, and leveling and we are here to help you and your properties.
