How Houses are Built Part 1

Houses, a plot of land with a building to make a home. The art of building homes can be pretty complex and with many steps! In this first part, we’ll begin the discussion on the building process of houses from start to finish.

The first step is to figure out where to build the house! This preparation of the land is called site preparation. Prep involves clearing the land of any trees and rocks and then building a foundation. This foundation is either a basement, slab, or crawl space, using concrete for construction. The concrete normally takes several weeks to solidify so nothing is done once it is set.

Once the foundation is set, floor construction begins. This only applies to basements and crawl spaces as slabs serve as the floor. The flooring tends to be made of wood and sits on the foundation. Once flooring is done, construction of the walls begin. This means assembling the walls on the ground and raising it into place. The wall frame also tends to be made of wood and is then covered with plywood. Finally comes to the roof. Normally trusses are used for roof framing, which are pre made triangle wood structures that can support the roof. They tend to be durable, affordable, and quick, the only drawback is you can’t have an attic!
