Moving the oldest home in Tampa

Tampa Bay has a deep history all the way back to the 1500s, and we celebrate that at AJS. We were proudly involved in moving the oldest home in Tampa, and in this article we will provide some insight on what that process was.

In 1842, Dr. Sheldon Stringer built his home in the area that is now downtown Tampa. This home was crafted with care, as many homes were back in the day. As time went on, the house changed owners and began to lose its beauty. The bones of the house stayed, and a company worked to move it out of the downtown district to a site where it will be protected so no one could get rid of the history it holds. We worked hard to ensure it held up during its five mile journey. The house was in great condition, and the most challenging part was bracing the home to ensure it stayed together. Of course being almost a forty foot span, transportation was intricate, but we succeeded. Since then, the home has been used for an office space, but as of 2021, was on the market. As of November of 2022, it is being restored.
