Hurricane Preparation: Evacuation



While our Florida homes are unmatched, in times of high wind and rain, it may be at risk. Especially if you live close to the water, having an evacuation plan is crucial to ensuring you and your family’s safety if the need arises. With that said, here are a few ways you can prepare now!


Know your choices: information is critical during hurricane season and know what potential shelters you have access to is something to account for. Have a map of which ones would be most convenient for you and anyone else you are with. Make sure you have all proper medical and identification papers sealed in waterproof bags and bring them with you to these spaces.


Trial run: try heading to nearby shelters and become acquainted with the roads. In case of a hurricane, power and internet could be down, so learning the way free of technology can be beneficial. Writing it down on a map or on your phone could be beneficial as well.

Stay up to date: check in with your local radio or TV station to know if there are any upcoming hurricanes and any updates on how to handle them. You can also review the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) website to gain more insight on potential hurricanes in the area.
